Open Questions

In the following is sorted out some of my open questions on which I would like to investigate further. Please do not hesitate to leave a comment or contact me if you have any insights or pointers towards research articles or websites that could be of interest.

About Sleep Disorders
  • It seems that research focused on REM related apnea is extremely limited in the scientific literature. Indeed, we always talk about OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) without any distinction of the sleep stage in which apnea occurs. I am looking for pointers towards articles and surveys focused on this issue.
  • I would like to collect detailed information on the influence of various neurotransmitters affecting sleep, such as Dopamine, Acetylcholine, Norepinephrine, Serotonin and GABA. In particular, it seems that REM sleep is clearly affected by acetylcholine activity in the Central Nervous System.
  • It seems that the use of GHB has been demonstrated for improving sleep and would be notably interested by testimonials from people who have been testing Xyrem or similar products proposed on the market for treating narcolepsy.

About Data Gathering and Analysis
  • I am of course very interested by any experiments and data collection/mining related to sleep.
  • I would like to rely on simple statistical analysis for assessing the relevance of the variables I track in my experiments, and in particular for assessing the accuracy level of the figures I extract according to the (very limited) number of samples I collected so far, and to evaluate to what extent these variables would be co-related.
